Animation Interviews

Welcome

This site is designed as a research tool for people interested in entering the field of animation and for those who are curious about the varied nature of the artistic medium. When people think of animation, they usually think of feature films and Saturday morning cartoons. But what about the people who are behind these films and shows? What about the artists who choose not to go into the animation industry? Who are they and how did they get there? When I first felt the pull of animation, I knew nothing about it and knew no one who I could ask questions of. When it came time for college I wondered where I should go to school and if I even should. There are a lot of aspiring animators out there who have little access to information. The questions I asked in the following interviews are those that I felt would give a good perspective to the reader. Ultimately, animation is like a big family. You’ll see that in how no one will tell negative stories or criticize the work of others too harshly. They know how hard it is to make any film a reality and give credit to anyone who can accomplish it. Whether you choose to go into the industry, be an independent, or go into academia, you can be apart of the world of animation, even if you can’t draw. And that’s another great thing I had to learn. It takes all kinds of people to make an animated film. The people I have interviewed have all taken different paths and excel in different areas. Whatever it is you are good at, be it drawing, story, sculpting, direction, fine art, computer programming, organization, timing, marketing (and more), you can find your place in animation. If you want it, you can have it. It is just a matter of empowering yourself with information and listening and learning from others. Animation is an art and requires passion and dedication, and as I have come to realize, with those things, you will find a supportive community and a rich tradition that will help you realize your personal goals and take you to places you never thought you would go.
